Physical yoga practices throughout the year can be organized, sequenced and considered as part of the flow of the seasons. Following universal laws of nature engages us in the epic dialogue between great nature and personal nature; how we navigate our personal selves through this awesome and unfathomable universe; how we participate and party in the world of yoga as student and teacher, with the conundrum of our personal foibles, injuries, habits and gifts to find joy.

Each season has an attendant organ system, a taste, a color, a time of day, a personality type to consider when designing a yoga practice to help us resonate with its vibration. During the Fall season we address the health of our lungs, the metal element, whose personality type is refined, inspiring and discerning. When we are in balance and in tune with our metal element we are in touch with our values, while out of balance, grief and sadness rein. In Winter, finding our depths, our physical practice will clean our waters, discover our more interior selves where we cultivate our creativity and the fertility of our ideas, plans and emotional health. In a Spring practice we address the wood element, rising, renewal, growth and healthy assertiveness. Our physical practice will be backbends, potentiating and stretching ourselves. A Summer practice is the joyful element of the gregarious heart, inverting ourselves, heating, sweating, extending ourselves, coming out socially, moving to the beat of the collective.

In this workshop we will move through a practice for each season articulating its magic through the practicality of asanas, pranayama and theory of each seasonal element.
