WHAT DREW YOU TO KATONAH YOGA?
The theory and how the practice felt in my body. There is just nothing like it.
HOW HAS KATONAH CHANGED YOUR PRACTICE & TEACHING?
Katonah Yoga helps me unlock vaults in my body, demands that I use myself more efficiently, and reveals physiological holding patterns in my forms that echo in my psychology. This is a practice and its revelations, for me, are a forever thing. It's for life. I believe I've become a better teacher because I've become a better student and a more conscious human. I'm interested in doing this work for the insight, for the joy it supplies, for the changes it brings to my life. I think that comes through in my teaching.
HOW HAVE YOU SEEN KATONAH CHANGE STUDENTS?
I believe that this stuff needs to be experienced physically in order for it to land in the psychology, so for me, the best is when we're in class, in a pose where there's like five of us adjusting a student and you feel the student drop in to their body and lose their investment in the way they were holding it all together. They'll suddenly get a rush of color to the face, a deeper breath, and a lightness in their eyes, it's as though they've finally landed in their body. Everyone in the room can feel it. Those are the big ah-hah moments for me as a student and teacher and its when I know that they're having a big experience that will change their approach to everything.
