THE METAPHORS OF KATONAH YOGA
with Samara Speller
Friday, May 15th (2pm-4pm)
Price: $30
Have you ever wondered: What does it mean for someone to have “good sideview mirrors?” What are the implications of “living in a house with low ceilings?” Where do the images of “fire rising up the back” and “grace raining down the front” come from? Why do all poses have a spherical nature? What does it mean to be too linear?
Metaphors are powerful tools. Not only do they engage your imagination, they can make the esoteric relatable and the mundane poetic. Newcomers to the practice have often commented how learning the theory is like learning a different language. We speak in metaphors when teaching Katonah Yoga because the practice itself IS a metaphor. How you move through your body is how you move through your life, and both can be reformed through a process of defining and refining your techniques.
The first step of the practice is to define what it is you’re doing. In this workshop, we’ll demystify the major metaphors of Katonah Yoga. We’ll define first, second & third nature and how they manifest in our behavior from how we use money to how we show up in relationships. We’ll talk about the body as a house, an instrument, a vehicle, a plant and more. We’ll discuss organs and glands, following the great patterns of nature and what it means to make yourself into an origami cup so that when you do the physical practice it will be less about working hard and more about using the material to know yourself, in the pursuit of joy.
