WHAT DREW YOU TO KATONAH YOGA?
I was practicing yoga but it was inconsistent. I loved the way I felt after class, but I wasn't drawn to a particular method or teacher. My pilates instructor at the time told me to try Katonah Yoga. Abbie read my feet in that first class and introduced me to my hips in double pigeon and I haven't been the same since. It was so profound. The material blew me away.
HOW HAS KATONAH CHANGED YOUR PRACTICE & TEACHING?
Katonah taught me to go places in my body that I never went before. I occupy areas differently now, for the better. I have more awareness and fluency. It's not about how well I can show I'm doing the poses, but how well I can be in them; am I suffering? how much space have I created? how much air can I put into it? what can I see? where can I go? The Katonah practice showed me that it's all about imagination, being able to access it and knowing how to use it is everything. Through it I have gained insights that helped me understand bodies in a way I never would have before.
HOW HAVE YOU SEEN KATONAH CHANGE STUDENTS?
The most significant changes I have seen in students are the little things. The aha moments, the subtle shifts in understanding, when something just clicks and a student realizes that they are capable of so much more than they thought they were and that their body can move in ways they hadn't thought possible.
