Creativity is a practice - an alchemical process that serves as an antidote to oppressive circumstances. Creativity is hope, creativity is how nature progresses forward, creativity literally keeps us alive. Creativity is a physical process. The body is the medium, imagination is the conduit and creativity is the pathway.
In this training, we will nurture our creativity through physical practice, applying Katonah Yoga principles to the neuroscience of creativity to help you iron out creative blocks, anxiety and resistance by approaching creativity from a physical standpoint -- by speaking and listening to the body in its own language. We’ll demystify the neurological components of the creative process: from ideation to implementation by exploring physical sensation in meditation, movement, vocal and writing exercises, all while recruiting the imagination to explore the endlessly fertile ground of creativity housed in the body’s terrain. Using these exercises, we will map how creativity and imagination (these heady, third floor superstars) can be traced to and nurtured at the source: in the body!
No matter what level of artistic training you may have, you will learn (and most of all feel) how your own creativity (and the relationship you have with it) is not dependent on divine inspiration or cosmic revelations, but rather, a reliable source of rich, authentic and regenerating physical joy. You’ll walk away with a better understanding of how your brain works in creative states, and how to work with your habitual nature when encountering creative ruts or paralysis. Absolutely no background or expertise in the arts is required for this workshop. In fact, this training is designed with extra affection for those who find themselves in a rut or contentious relationship with their creative work.
