BRIAN NYGARD
WHAT DREW YOU TO KATONAH YOGA?
I was drawn to Katonah by the community it generates. The teachers are sensible, kind and curious; the atmosphere is light and people are encouraged to help one another. I remember my first class with Abbie she sat down next to me and told me I was living on the third floor and that she would help me find my roots. I was hooked.
HOW HAS KATONAH CHANGED YOUR PRACTICE & TEACHING?
The Katonah method has given me a greater vocabulary to simplify and articulate a yoga practice. I've grown to recognize each form for its function and become more aware of the patterns in myself and my students. I've learned sound technique to approach bodies and make meaningful adjustments. I've cultivated a personal practice that's refreshing and reformative. But most of all, Katonah Yoga reminds me to be inclusive; using metaphor to consider the circumstance and a yoga practice to create a life that is safe, loving, and enlightened.
HOW HAVE YOU SEEN KATONAH CHANGE STUDENTS?
I've seen students become more deliberate in the choices they make. I've observed them taking initiative working with their injuries instead of around them. Ive seen people become more calm, patient and conscious with their bodies.
