The theory that underpins the Katonah Yoga practice offers us a lens through which to understand ourselves. Within ourselves exist three natures waiting to be nurtured and developed. We use the idea of a braid that holds us together in order to explore our three natures; Lunar, Solar and Stellar.
Our first nature, our lunar nature, habitual and inherited, is unconscious. Our second nature, our solar nature, experiential and conscious, is the one we use for growth and purposefulness in the world. Our third nature, our stellar nature, implicit soul’s nature, accessed by the first two, completes us. Our fourth nature, the whole braid, is the gift we give ourselves, only achieved by virtue of conscious work and the investment of time.
Join us for an exploration of Katonah Yoga through the lens of our three natures. This intensive will cover all aspects of the Katonah Yoga theory and practice including the physical practice, pranayama, restorative, home practice, adjustments, injuries, teaching privates, magic square and body reading.
THE LUNAR (Saturday November 13th)
The lunar nature is our potential, our DNA, the gifts we receive from our ancestry, our "stock," where we emanate from, where it all begins. In the lunar section of our intensive we will explore the foundational elements of the theory and practice; including the form + function of our physical practice to orient ourselves for stability, an introduction to the pranayama practice to access our volume and dimension and the magic square to unearth the central principles of the Katonah theory.
THE SOLAR (Sunday November 14th)
The solar nature is our competency, what we learn, how we train ourselves to manifest in the world, the part of us that we develop through time and technique. In the solar section of our intensive we will explore the elements of the theory and practice that require the development of skill and working communally with others; including the more rigorous aspects of our physical practice, giving adjustments to others, addressing common injuries, working with students in privates and exploring the glands through pranayama.
THE STELLAR (Saturday November 20th)
The stellar nature is our soul, our thoughts, our choices, meditation, insight, the imaginative thread connecting our personal experience to the cosmos, that which is not seen. In the stellar section of our intensive we will explore the more implicit elements of the theory and practice that require the development of imagination; including body reading to attune our vision, restorative practice to digest theory as we go inside ourselves and the more esoteric pranayama practices such as the wraps for rapture, to engage our imaginations.
THE NARRATIVE THREAD (Sunday November 21st)
The narrative thread is the integrated whole, it is ourselves, evolved, the product. In the narrative thread section of our intensive we will assimilate, consolidate and unify all the pieces of the theory and practice we have learned so far, to move toward integration and embodiment. Here we will explore the importance of a home practice and developing an interior life, the principles of longevity and the value of nourishing our creativity and elevated pranayama practices and techniques to traverse deeper inside ourselves.
